It’s been a month since my last fossil hunt and I was definitely needing to get down to the beach to clear out the cobwebs. Luckily, our lockdown ended and I was able to take my rusty hammer down to the beach.

I encountered a large leopard seal having a nap on the beach, they visit New Zealand from time to time and it’s almost a year to the day that a leopard seal was spotted in the same area.

With the sand level very high on the beach, I focused on some micro fossils and found a nice concentration of forams that I took home to study further.
